Economic and Policy Officer position
Our offer
Central Securities Depositaries (CSDs) are Financial Market Infrastructures responsible for maintaining the clarity on the ownership of financial instruments and for settlement of financial transactions. They are fundamental pieces of financial markets, and contribute to reducing their risks and ensuring efficiency.
The association has five working streams: Risk management, Policy, Compliance, Technology & Settlement and Harmonisation of European markets practices. The Economic and policy officer will assist the Secretary General in discussions of the working groups and Board meetings (responsible for setting up the strategy of the industry), as well as the discussions with the European Central Bank, European policy-makers, as well as different market stakeholders.
Your work will have direct impact on the European CSDs industry, their best practices, regulatory environment, and image. The Economic and Policy adviser will be in regular contact with the chairs of the working group and its members. She/he will report directly to the Secretary General of the association. We offer a full-time contract under Belgian law with an attractive package including a salary and fringe benefits. Candidates must have the legal right to work in Belgium.

Tasks of the Economic and Policy officer
- Lead and organise the work of ECSDA working groups and help shaping CSD regulatory environment;
- Suggest on the ways of achieveing a better regulatory environment for the CSDs and financial markets in general, by drafting briefings and position papers of the association;
- Report to members and broader audience on the evolution of the European CSD ecosystem;
- Research special topics on the request of EU authorities and ECSDA members.
Technical skills and experience of the officer
- Exceptional writing skills and very good spoken English;
- Some knowledge about financial market infrastructure, and European policy making;
- Good speaking and presentation skills
- Master’s degree in law, economics or finance.
Soft skills of the officer
- Proactive and capable of operating autonomously, and have an independent mindset; you are a self-starter, ready to take ownership, solution-driven and client-focused, creative and going an extra-mile;
- Assertive and diplomatic at the same time;
- Disciplined and have strong organisation skills and an eye for detail;
- Capable to quickly build relationships with stakeholders.
